Refilling the Well?

You may know that I was traveling last week and the first half of this week. And a funny thing happened:

I had been writing a lot before my journey. And I didn’t want to break my run in getting high word counts every week. So I borrowed a laptop. I felt all set when I boarded the train on Wednesday morning.

Well, it turned out the laptop was broken. It had a fault that made it jump lines while typing. All the time. I didn’t even try to go for any sustained writing with that constant error. I wouldn’t have been able to lose myself in a scene the way I usually do, and if I had, the result would have been jumbled text. I was forced to take a break from writing.

No writing for about ten days.

And something strange happened: I felt myself calm down. I managed to release the frenzy of writing constantly, of being completely immersed in my stories. My characters took a step back. I slept better. I started contemplating business strategy instead of just the next scene.

And it felt good.

Some said I was refilling my well.

I think I needed a break. I needed to step away from the frenzy.

Now I’m ready to dive back in – because it is glorious when stories flow and grow. And I have more energy for it now. My characters are ready to move. So later today, I’ll be writing. Lots.

Are you doubting you need a break? Are you afraid you might lose the connection to your story if you do step back for a few days?

Please don’t.

Everyone needs a break once in a while. Get a rest. Ease that mind.

Here’s some tapping to help you relax and allow yourself a break:

Even though I’m so afraid of taking a break, especially when my writing has been great, I’m a good writer, and I can allow myself to step back from the frenzy and find a healthy balance of writing and resting.

Even though I’ve been totally immersed in my story and really feel compelled to keep writing as much as I can, I’m a good writer, and I’m open to the possibility that taking the right kind of break might actually help me break into new plot shifts.

Even though I’ve been writing and writing and worked myself into a frenzy where I can’t think of anything else but my characters, I’m okay the way I am, and I’m open to the possibility that a break might help me calm down and regroup so I can be even more creative.

Your Turn:
How difficult is it for you to take a break right now?
What kind of break would feel good for you?
What happened while you were tapping?
And finally – what great story are you writing right now?
Would love to hear from you!

PS: Every bit of change creates fear. And if you’re on a writing roll, the last thing you want to do is to take a break. The biggest fear is never being able to get back into it. But that’s just a limiting belief. EFT is an awesome tool to release that kind of belief – and lets you get back into writing easily and happily.

I’d love to do that for you. If that idea appeals to you and you want to learn more, click HERE and send me an email. Together, we’ll figure out how I can support you best.
