The Success Experiment – They Have a Secret

When we look at successful authors like Hugh Howey, Andy Weir or H.M. Ward, their rise to fame often seems unbelievable. They seem to come out of nowhere, and sell thousands or even millions of books.

And they usually say they didn’t do anything special. They uploaded their books, told their friends, and they took off. So they kept writing, and the rest is history.

Whereas our books do not take off. What’s the difference?

It’s easy to believe they are not telling everything.

They must have a secret!

At least they must have something we don’t. That’s obvious, isn’t it?

And that’s a horrible trap.

Because if we start to believe that we lack something the bestsellers have, then we are starting to devalue ourselves and our writing.

We choose to see ourselves as deficient. Weak. Not enough. Doubt creeps in.

And that’s a terribly dangerous mindset.

Because when we doubt ourselves, our writing suffers. We lose our voice. Our characters become less defined. We try to imitate others and lose our originality.

Maybe we even try to roll out books quickly, before they are ready.

Maybe we get really pushy in our marketing.

And then it’s no wonder our stories don’t sell.

The only way to fix this is to shift our mindset.

We writers need to feel good, centered and creative, in order to write good stories. And while we write, we should only think of the story, and not of what happens after it’s finished.

That’s a focused mindset, one that allows us to be successful.

So how do we get there?

Well, my way is EFT tapping, as usual.

Even though I believe I’m somehow less than all those bestsellers, I’m still a good author, and I now choose to ignore that thought and write a good story anyway.

Even though I envy those authors and believe that I’ll never do as well as they do, I’m a good author, and I now choose to focus on my writing and get better every day.

Even though I sometimes think they have a secret, something I lack, I’m a good writer anyway, and I now give myself permission to enjoy my writing and feel good about it.

Your Turn:
How do you feel about your writing?
What do you think you’re lacking?
What happened while you were tapping?
And finally – what are you creating right now?
Would love to hear from you!
